MANDAUE City on Sunday, May 3, 2020, logged 60 new confirmed cases of the coronavirus disease (Covid-19), the highest recorded number in a single day by the city, announced a local official.

This brought the total number of infections in the city to 89, with two recoveries and two mortalities.

According to lawyer John Eddu Ibañez, executive secretary of Mandaue City Mayor Jonas Cortes, all of the new cases are inmates of the Mandaue City Jail Facility.

The increase in the number of cases in the Mandaue City Jail is due to the massive testing being done to its inmates and personnel.

Ibañez said that the City Government is working double time to complete the preparation of the Bureau of Jail Management and Penology Facility, which will be the quarantine facility for inmates and personnel who tested positive for the new coronavirus. (KFD)
