SOUTHERN Philippines Medical Center (SPMC) bared that the youngest person who died in their hospital is an 18-year-old patient who has an underlying medical condition.

SPMC chief Dr. Leopoldo Vega said that the patient was still under pediatrics who was admitted to their hospital for lymphoma.

He added that the patient died on April 9.

Asked about the patient’s history of exposure, the SPMC chief said the patient was undergoing chemotherapy at SPMC but he cannot ascertain if the patient contracted the respiratory disease inside their health institution.

The oldest patient, on the other hand, was a 75 female senior citizen who perished due to severe pneumonia.

As of May 2, SPMC logged a total of 20 deaths due to the virus, 15 are male while five are female.

Health authorities already warned that those with an underlying medical condition are at a higher risk of developing severe symptoms and likely develop health complications once they are infected with coronavirus disease 2019 (Covid-19).

Based on the data from the Department of Health (DOH)-Davao, some of the fatalities have comorbidities such as hypertension, coronary artery disease, diabetes, kidney disease, among others.

With this, the City Government decided to prohibit minors, senior citizen, pregnant women, sick, and immunocompromised individuals from going out of their residences except to go to the hospitals, medical or allied medical institutions to protect them from contracting the disease under the guidelines of the enhanced community quarantine (ECQ),.

The total confirmed cases of Covid-19 at SPMC, meanwhile, now stand at 123 with a total of 63 recoveries.

Meanwhile, the Davao City Information Office (CIO) said that other cases are either Persons Under Investigation (PUIs) and Persons Under Monitoring (PUM), of which 89 patients are admitted at the SPMC; 12 in Center A; and five in Center B. There are no patients admitted in Center C.

DOH-Davao said based on their investigation, the three most common nature of exposure of those who tested positive for Covid-19 is the exposure of patients to a derby cockfight in New Davao Matina Gallera, travel both local and international, and exposure to Covid-19 positive patients.
