2 killed, 6 injured in Cadiz road accident

TWO passengers were killed while six others were injured after a truck lost its break and fell into a seven-foot deep cemented riprap at Purok Azucena, Barangay Banquerohan, Cadiz City on May 3.

The fatalities were identified as Eric Esacala and Nicolas Pagunsan while those wounded were Edmar Dela Pena, 44, Rolly Sinogbuhan, 39, and Paz Alpay, 59, all Barangay Himogaan Baybay, Sagay City; Vicente Albos, 54, and Jake Pasilan, 25, both residents of Barangay Tiglawigan, Cadiz City.

Police investigation revealed that an Isuzu Elf truck driven by Erlito Tributante loaded with seven passengers was traversing from Sitio Sawmill, Barangay Himogaan Baybay bound towards the direction of Cadiz City proper and upon reaching the stated place of incident, the truck had a brake malfunction and was out of control. The vehicle swerved to the left portion of the road and fell into the cemented riprap which is about seven feet deep.

All truck passengers sustained body injuries and was rushed at the Cadiz City Emergency Clinic but Esacala and Pagonsan were declared dead on arrival by the attending physician.

Other passengers including the driver were referred to Corazon Locsin Memorial Hospital, Bacolod City for further medication. (TDE)
