Cagayan de Oro logs 3 new Covid-19 cases

THE City Health Office (CHO) of Cagayan de Oro recorded three new Covid-19 cases as of Wednesday, May 6, bringing the city's total to seven, with four deaths, two still admitted and one recovery.

A 61-year-old female from Barangay Carmen is the latest casualty due to Covid-19.

The patient, who was admitted on Friday, May 1, was rushed to Northern Mindanao Medical Center (NMMC) due to community acquired pneumonia, classified as a high-risk case.

On the evening of May 5, she succumbed to acute respiratory failure secondary to community acquired pneumonia, and complications of Covid-19.

The other two new cases involves the family members of PH6783, a 69-year-old Covid patient from Pinikitan, Barangay Camaman-an who died on April 18.

The two family members are in stable condition and are both asymptomatic or not showing any symptoms.

They are currently in isolation at the City Isolation Unit.

Also, 13 other family members of PH6783 tested negative for the novel coronavirus.

Contact tracing is currently ongoing for the three new cases.

Meanwhile, the 21-year-old patient from Barangay Lumbia who also tested positive for the virus died early morning Wednesday, May 6. The young man died due to acute respiratory failure secondary to Covid-19 infection.

Dr. Bernard Rocha, NMMC medical officer, said the injuries he got from the car accident compounded or accelerated the infection, thus complicating his case.
