Traffic Authority nets 254 tricabs

A TOTAL of 254 tricycles, pedicabs and electric bikes (e-bike) were impounded by the Bacolod Traffic Authority Office (BTAO) in Bacolod City from April 7 to May 4.

Police Lieutenant Colonel Luisito Acebuche, head of BTAO, said since the implementation of city’s enhanced community quarantine (ECQ), a total of 254 erring tricycle, pedicab, and e-bike drivers were fined.

“These units were impounded because they continued to operate during the ECQ,” Acebuche said.

He said that during the ECQ all the public transportation were suspended.

Acebuce noted that the erring drivers can pay their penalty after the ECQ so they can claim their units at the Bacolod City Police Office (BCPO) Headquarters.

Acebuche said the residents can use their tricycle to buy foods, but they should have a quarantine pass and should practice social distancing.

He said several traffic enforcers were assigned to various check-up points to assist the frontliners.

Acebuche also urged the drivers to follow the guidelines of the ECQ to avoid penalties.

BCPO earlier deputized an additional of 73 policemen, who underwent training with the Land Transportation Office (LTO), to arrest erring tricycle, pedicab and e-bike drivers in the city.
