Another broadcaster shot dead in Dumaguete

ANOTHER radio broadcaster in Dumaguete City, Negros Oriental was shot dead by unknown suspects Tuesday night, May 5, along Villa Amada street in Barangay Daro, Dumaguete City, Negros Oriental.

The victim was identified as Cornelio Pepino also known as “Rex Cornelio”, 49 years old, a radio anchorman of DYMD Energy FM and a Dumaguete-based journalist.

Cornelio was on board a motorcycle with his wife on their way home to Sibulan after hosting his two-hour program “Pokpokin mo Baby” over Energy FM 93.7.

Initial investigation showed that the victim was stopped by motorcycle-riding gunmen and was shot five times at close range.

Two gunshots hit him on the chest, one on the head, one on the shoulder, and one on the left wrist, investigators said.

Witnesses added that his wife was unscathed.

Pepino was rushed to the Silliman University Medical Center where he was declared dead on arrival.
