DURING one of his past visits to our Queen City, Conrad Manila general manager Laurent Boisdron, accompanied by the hotel’s director of business development Michael Albania, broke bread with Cebu Media. Most of it was to update us on the goings-on at their turf, but slowly switching to a rather sentimental mood, Boisdron told us he was leaving the country for another post. Secret?

It seemed like only yesterday when Boisdron was sharing Japanese delights with us at Radisson Blu Cebu where he was then general manager. There were many more happenings at the Radisson, and always, the general manager was warm and welcoming!

Cebu, your second home, will really miss you!

Before his departure, his parting token was an overnight stay at the fabulous Conrad-Manila, at the center of the huge gaming and entertainment mecca that is the boulevard, a stone’s throw from SM Mall of Asia’s complex. Our superb stay at the Conrad, with its never-before-seen extensive and priceless art and sculpture collection, did not disappoint!

Upon entry at the Lobby, you are greeted with a larger-than-life Oroburos, the hybrid result of artist Leeroy New’s fascination with natural forms and mythological themes. Artist Impy Pilapil’s sculpture Splendor exudes her love for marine flora and air movement in water. As guests pass through The Atrium on Level 3, they are treated to prismatic projections that add to its ethereal glow!

Consultant Nes Jardin, chose the Huanghou series of six Chinese imperial figures, done by a trio of young female artists collectively known as Khia Chong, to enhance the walls of the private rooms of China Blue. These are faceless personages covered by Chinese motifs that depict nature.

Fairly new to most of us is the medium Acrylic on Fabric, which is artist Olivia d’Aboville’s forte. For the exclusive Terraces Suite on Level 7, she provided Blue Series Xll. Each canvas expresses a captured moment of the water’s fluidity.

Indeed, Conrad Manila’s art collection is as vast as they come, but unfortunately, we are unable to publish everything here. Trust that when you reach the hotel, every corner becomes an art experience!

At Conrad, never just stay. Stay inspired!
