Council lauds Avila for topping bar exams

BAGUIO City legislators stand proud of a Baguio boy who topped the Bar Exams.

On the move of Councilor Joel Alangsab, a commendation has been adopted by the entire City Council lauding the Anton Luis Avila from the Saint Louis University for placing 8th in the 2019 Bar Exam.

Alangsab said “The feat serves as an inspiration to our community as a whole, but also brings prestige and honor to the City of Baguio as the center for education in the North and to the Cordillera region in general, hence, worthy of commendation.”

Avila ended over three decades of the school’s non-entry to the exclusive circle of topnotchers and is a dean’s lister and founder of the College of Law Liturgical Committee, often playing the guitar for causes and for daily mass offerings.

Alangsab said the school is considered as one of the prestigious and top performing universities in the Philippines for its excellence in research and passing rates in board exams.

There were 100 SLU law students who took the Bar with 45 of them as new takers, the school has an overall passing rate of 52.48% for re-takers while the new takers have a passing rate of 73.33%.

Last week, the Supreme Court electronically released results of the 2019 Bar Examination, with a University of Santo Tomas-Legazpi graduate landing on top, besting over 2,000 who took the exams.
