THE creation of another legislative district for Benguet Province will depend on the people, according to caretaker and ACT–CIS Party-list Representative Eric Go Yap.

Yap earlier this week filed in Congress proposed House Bill no. 6615 titled “An Act Reapportioning the Province of Benguet into two Legislative Districts” during the regular session of the House of Representatives.

The solon, in his proposed bill, seeks to reapportion the lone district of Benguet to two districts.

Under the proposed bill, the first legislative district will be composed of Bokod, Itogon, Kabayan, Sablan, Tuba while the towns of Atok, Bakun, Buguias, Kapangan, Kibungan, La Trinidad, Mankayan, and Tublay will compose the second legislative district.

But this will have to be done in a public consultation, according to Yap, who on Friday, May 8, distributed relief packs and vitamins to senior citizens in Barangay Tublay Central, Tublay.

“We will still conduct public consultation to get the pulse of Benguet residents. Kung ano po yung mapagdesisyunan at ano ang magiging boses ng Benguet, yun po ang ating ipu-push,” said Yap.

Yap added the bill, creating another legislative district for Benguet was suggested by former party mates of former congressmen of the province.

The solon added having two lawmakers will have benefits for the province.

“Pag dalawang tao ang tumitingin sa buong Benguet, isa sa district one, isa sa district two, mas tututukan ang province,” added Yap.

Yap added the bill seeks to ensure equitable representation for the constituents of the province of Benguet in the legislature and the national government by creating a new legislative district.

The bill is pending in the Committee on Local Government.
