147 new virus cases, 8 more deaths in PH

NEARLY 150 new coronavirus disease (Covid-19) cases were recorded by the Department of Health (DOH) on Saturday, May 9, as the numbers in the Philippines continue to rise.

As of 4 p.m., the DOH reported 147 additional patients who have contracted the novel coronavirus, or Sars-CoV-2, which causes the coronavirus disease (Covid-19).

This brought the total infections in the Philippines to 10,610.

Eight new fatalities were recorded Saturday which brings the death toll to 704.

Of the same day, the DOH reported 108 recoveries.

There is now a total of 1,842 patients who have recovered from the disease.

According to the World Health Organization (WHO), the novel coronavirus has infected 3,822,382 people in 215 countries and killed 263,658 as of May 9.

In the Western Pacific Region, the Philippines ranks 5th among countries with Covid-19 after China, Singapore, Japan, and South Korea. (HDT/SunStar Philippines)
