A SEAFARER was found dead inside a cargo ship docked in Barangay Tablon, Cagayan de Oro City around 1 p.m. Friday, May 8.

Police identified the seafarer as Aristone Calad, 65, a native of Deplahan, Zamboanga Sibugay and a second engineer of the cargo vessel Kheri 10.

Calad’s lifeless body was found on his bunk bed.

Investigation showed the victim had been suffering from severe cough, colds, and fever for five days.

His colleague, 28-year-old Rhey Palis, a third engineer of the ship, told police that Calad fell ill after loading cargoes last Sunday, May 3.

Major Ivan Vinas, spokesperson of the Cagayan de Oro City Police Office (Cocpo), said the City Health Office was called for the management of the body.

Vinas said the investigation will observe the guidelines set by the Interagency Task Force on Covid-19 and the Department of Health as a precautionary measure against the deadly novel coronavirus.
