JUST before the world celebrates Mother’s Day, a mother from the northern town of Daanbantayan, Cebu has fallen victim to another stabbing incident.
Melissa Reyes, a resident of Sitio Casia, Barangay Linao, was stabbed by her neighbor while she was bathing her child at 7:19 a.m. Saturday, May 9, 2020.
The 26-year-old mother sustained multiple stab wounds after her neighbor Edelberto Condeno, 52, married, attacked her.
Condeno, however, reportedly stabbed himself to death after the incident.
Staff Sgt. Joseph Dela Cerna of the Daanbantayan Police Station told Superbalita Cebu that Reyes was bathing her child right ouside of their house.
Condeno, on the other hand, was looking at the mother and child at his terrace.
Dela Cerna said while Reyes got preoccupied, Condeno approached them and stabbed the mother with a kitchen knife.
Reyes was rushed to the hospital. She is now recovering despite sustaining multiple stab wounds.
After the incident, Condeno went back to his house and stabbed himself in the chest twice.
He was already dead when the police and responders arrived in his house.
According to Condeno’s wife Lucia, her husband had been suffering from a nervous breakdown.
This is the second stabbing incident involving a mother in the past two days.
On Thursday night, May 7, an ex-seaman, who was said to be mentally unstable, allegedly killed his mother by slitting her throat in Barangay Mambaling, Cebu City.
Initial investigation showed that the mother and son got in a heated argument last week over a quarantine pass. (GPL, RTF)
