BCBC readies for LSV 2015

THE Baguio Correspondents and Broadcasters Club (BCBC), the Summer Capital’s largest and oldest media group, is ready for its annual search for the Lucky Summer Visitors (LSV) set April 2 to 5.

The annual LSV is a more than 50-year-old project of the BCBC in partnership with the City Government of Baguio, the province of Benguet, the municipalities of La Trinidad and Tuba and the various government agencies and private partners.

BCBC president Dhobie de Guzman kicked off the annual search with the opening of the Media Camp Peppot at the Burnham Park on Monday, March 30, with the traditional ritual by a mambunong.

A two-day journalism seminar for students and information officers of the Mines and Geosciences Bureau–Cordillera and the Synchronized Information, Communication, Education (SICE) Team from the various mining company in the region was conducted Monday and Tuesday as part of the annual media activity.

A mass to be officiated by Bishop Carlito Cenzon will be held today at Camp Peppot, followed by the Kapihan sa Baguio with the different officials of Baguio City, Benguet, government agencies and private partners as panelists.

For the first time, officials of Rosario, La Union led by Mayor Belarmin Red Flores III will join the kapihan.

The BCBC has tapped the local government of Rosario, La Union as partners and will help on Holy Thursday for the selection of the lucky summer visitors from passengers of buses coming from different parts of the lowlands.

Once lucky visitors are selected, a courtesy call will be held at the Barangay Twin Peaks, Tuba and a quick stop to the Lion’s Head will follow.

The visitors will then be brought to the Baguio City Hall for a courtesy call with Mayor Mauricio Domogan.

The LSVs will be checked in at Hotel Supreme and will be presented to members of BCBC at the Media Camp with the grand welcome party hosted by the Philippine Mine Safety and Environment Association.

The lucky visitors will tour the different landmarks of Baguio and Benguet like the Balatoc Mines in Itogon, Benguet, the Philippine Military Academy (PMA), Tam Awan Village and the La Presa or the Sitio Pungayan in Mount Cabuyao.

The LSVs are also set to go to Pugo Adventure, in Pugo, La Union along Marcos Highway to let them experience the extreme adventures offered there.

The visitors will also have a chance to visit the Strawberry Festival of La Trinidad and experience the strawberry picking at the valley’s famous Strawberry Fields.

Benguet Governor Nestor Fongwan and La Trinidad Mayor Edna Tabanda will welcome the visitors in the vegetable and flower capital of the Philippines.

Apart from the free guided tours, the lucky visitors will also be treated to nightly shows by the various local performers.

Easter Sunday will be a family affair where families and children of journalists will be joining a day of fun with the LSV prior to the send-off program. (Redjie Melvic Cawis)
