THE Department of Health (DOH) on Tuesday, May 12, reported 264 new cases of coronavirus infections and 25 additional mortalities.

The number of cases continue to climb even as government prepares to relax or lift quarantine restrictions in most parts of the country.

As of 4 p.m. Tuesday, the DOH said the total number of infections in the Philippines went up to 11,350 while the death toll increased to 751.

Patients who have recovered reached 2,106, with 107 reported in the last 24 hours.

DOH Undersecretary Maria Rosario Vergeire said earlier Tuesday that the Philippines has yet to have the Covid-19 transmission under control.

“Hindi natin sinasabi na we have already controlled (the situation) kaya tayo ay mayroong minimum health standards,” she said during the online press briefing with Presidential Spokesperson Harry Roque.

She said the agency is preparing for the second wave of infections which might happen once the government eases the restrictions.

(SunStar Philippines)
