Gacad: Some notes

AS A result of the meeting of PRRD with his Cabinet, the following notes were presented. “Our economy is resilient. The country’s economic position, even in this pandemic, is that we are in the top 10% in the world in economic resiliency or the best in Southeast Asia. The sound policies of the President have made our economy strong. This approach of saving for the rainy day has given us ample space to finance the fight against Covid-19.

The inflation rate in April is 2.2 percent. We should reinstate the Build, Build, Build Program. We need to hire contract tracers en masse while we provide jobs. We temporarily lost 1.2 to 1.5 million jobs. The immediate passage of the Citira, or Train package 2 can help attract foreign investors. We must promote manufacturing with inelastic demand such as food. Support the whole food value chain, production, food markets, etc. Our problem is that people are not buying things. We have to stimulate demand. Build, Build, Build. Push food production.

We cannot endure ECQ for an extended period of time. We have to balance health and economy. According to WHO, any plans to ease ECQ, should be gradual to prevent resurgence of the disease. The national action plan will focus on TEST, TRACE, TREAT, meaning the plan is Covid-carrier centric - end to end Test, Trace, Treat mechanism.

It must be very clear to the people why they can or cannot work. It’s an extreme rare privilege to serve in the Government. Even with the easing up of restrictions, it doesn’t mean that the Covid-19 threat is no longer present. We should do it slowly so that we won’t fail because we cannot afford a second or third wave.

Do not go out of your house without a mask. This is a must. If you’re not wearing a mask, you endanger the person in front of you. Social distancing is the new life, until such time that there will be a vaccine. Covid is very lethal. It can go either way: be at home or be in the funeral.

The government is asking one thing, stay home. These coming days, you’ll see more of the fighting spirit. We are at the disposal of our destiny. Obey government and you will live.”

With only a few days before the May 15 deadline, the success of the earlier quarantines and lockdowns will largely still depend on us. Let us be serious about this and do our share of making life a little bit better for everyone.

“A higher rate of urgency does not imply ever-present panic, anxiety, or fear. It means a state in which complacency is virtually absent.” ~ John P. Kotter

“We don’t want to turn the safety net into a hammock that lulls able-bodied people into complacency and dependence.” ~ Paul Ryan

“The tragedy of life is often not in our failure, but rather in our complacency; not in our doing too much, but rather in our doing too little; not in our living above our ability, but rather in our living below our capacities.” ~ Benjamin E. Mays
