Coronavirus cases continue rising in NCR, Central Visayas

THE Department of Health (DOH) on Wednesday, May 13, recorded 268 more individuals who have contracted the novel coronavirus that causes the coronavirus disease (Covid-19), bringing the country’s total to 11,618.

Of the 268 new cases, 165 were reported in the National Capital Region (NCR) while 58 were from Central Visayas and 45 from the rest of the country.

As of 4 p.m. Wednesday, the DOH also reported 21 additional deaths, bringing the total number of fatalities to 772.

DOH reported 145 more people who have recovered from Covid-19, raising the total number of survivors to 2,251.

Cases in the NCR or Metro Manila and Cebu City, considered the Covid-19 hotspot in Central Visayas, have continued to increase.

Both the NCR and Cebu City, along with Laguna, will still be under enhanced community quarantine (ECQ), although modified to allow some industries to resume operations, from May 16 to 31.

Worldwide, infections surpassed 4.08 million as of May 12, including 283,153 deaths. (JTM/SunStar Philippines)
