‘Ambo’ won’t directly affect Central Visayas

ALTHOUGH Ambo intensified into a severe tropical storm on Wednesday, May 13, 2020, it will not have a direct effect on Central Visayas, particularly Metro Cebu, the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (Pagasa)-Mactan said.

“Layo man ni siya nga bagyo with respect to Central Visayas. Ang mahimong epekto ra nato is makasinati ra tag dag-om nga langit ug light to moderate scattered rain tungod sa trough or extension sa bagyo (It’s far from Central Visayas. The effect is we will experience overcast skies and light to moderate scattered rain because of the storm’s trough or extension),” said Al Quiblat, Pagasa-Mactan chief.

The wind in Central Visayas, he said, is expected to be at 30 to 40 kilometers per hour (kph). With this, there is less chance for the weather bureau to place Central Visayas under a warning signal or issue a gale warning.

He, however, said it will be the Eastern Visayas which will experience the direct effects of Ambo, which is expected to make landfall in the Bicol region.

Based on their 4 p.m. forecast on Wednesday, the center of severe tropical storm Ambo was estimated at 330 kilometers east of Borongan City, Eastern Samar. (WBS)
