DUE to the rise in cases of the coronavirus disease 2019 (Covid-19) in the area, five sitios in Barangay Tejero, Cebu City have been placed on lockdown effective May 15, 2020.
Tejero Barangay Councilor Jose Randy Gorion said the sitios are ICM, IKP-Daclan, Macarosa, Sampaguita and Vilgon.
Gorion said Looban is not included in the lockdown, but the residents in the sitio will also be provided with relief goods since there is one Covid-19 patient in the area.
With the lockdown, Tejero Barangay Captain Hermogenes Galang Jr. said, the residents are not allowed to go outside their respective sitio, excluding those who need to get dialysis.
At least 941 families are living in the five sitios, he added.
Galang said persons have been assigned in each sitio whom residents can ask to buy medicines and vitamins.
He added that a vehicle will also transport residents who need to get dialysis.
The barangay officials agreed to place the five sitios on lockdown due to the continuous increase of Covid-19 cases in the area.
Tejero now has 75 Covid-19 patients, with two new additional cases recorded on May 15, according to the Cebu City Health Department (CHD).
The CHD logged three new cases of Covid-19 in Cebu City on May 15. Two were from Tejero and one from Barangay Kamputhaw.
All three Covid-19 patients are currently admitted to a hospital, according to the CHD.
With the new cases, Cebu City has breached the 1,700-mark. The city now has 1,702 Covid-19 patients.
There is also one new laboratory-negative case, which came from Barangay Labangon, bringing the total of laboratory-negative patients in the city to 76.
Two new deaths were recorded. One came from Barangay Mambaling and the other one from Barangay Suba.
The city now has 14 mortalities.
Meanwhile, one new Covid-19 case was recorded in Mandaue City on Friday, May 15.
Cebu Gov. Gwendolyn Garcia announced that out of 28 persons who were tested, only one from Mandaue tested positive for Covid-19. This brings the total of Covid-19 cases in the city to 112.
The new Covid-19 patient is an inmate of the Mandaue City Jail.
The Department of Health listed 215 new cases of Covid-19 cases, bringing the country’s total to 12,091 as of Friday, May 15.
Sixteen additional mortalities were also reported, raising the death toll to 806, while 123 more patients have recovered, bringing the total number of survivors to 2,460 as of Friday.
Of the 215 new cases, 144 were from the National Capital Region or Metro Manila, two from Central Visayas and 69 from the rest of the country.
According to the World Health Organization, there have been more than 4.2 million cases of infection in 216 countries.
