Citigym run to focus on runners’ safety

AFTER an accident that rocked the running community, the organizers of the Citirun, set to blast off tomorrow morning at the Waterfront Cebu City Hotel lagoon, are putting a premium on safety.

In another race last month, Revodem Aranas, a sprinter from the University of Southern Philippines, figured in an accident that got him hospitalized.

“We really focused all our attention on the safety of the runners especially since the number of participants are more than expected,” said race organizer Joel Baring.

Baring said they may be doubling their safety efforts to prevent any accident.

“I coordinated with all the barangay officials along the route for their tanods to assist us. I also asked the SRP bikers to guide the runners, to act as marshals on top of the regular marshals that we have.”

“We also tapped Eruf and another medical team from Cebu Doctors’ University,” he said. “As for the water, I am quite sure that we will not run out of it. We are ready for this race.”

Baring added there will be performers at every water station to “make the event livelier and to encourage the runners to finish.”

The event is held in celebration of the anniversary of the Citi gym. The categories are 12k, 6K and 4K.

There will also be cash prizes for the winners.
