Killer cereals: Bowls you can make at home

Killer cereals: Bowls you can make at home

WHO doesn’t love cereal? It’s cheap and only requires milk, a spoon and a bowl for you to enjoy. Unless you live under a rock, you must have come across these food trends online, especially the ones that debuted on short-form video app TikTok. We don’t know how and why people started shifting from baking banana bread and sourdough to creating these tiny treats but we do know you need to try your hand at one of these, pronto.

Pancake Cereal

Use your favorite pancake recipe or boxed mix and prepare it like you normally would. Place the batter in a piping bag (or a makeshift one) and dot the batter onto a non-stick pan, making sure each piece is small enough to resemble cereal. Top it with butter and douse in maple syrup and it’s just flippin’ fantastic.

Waffle Cereal

Shortly after pancake cereal made the rounds on social media, @soflofooodie made something for those who, like them, prefer waffles to pancakes. Load your waffle batter in a piping bag, pour over the spaces on your waffle maker and make sure both sides are cooked. Plop the pieces in a bowl and drizzle with your choice of syrup.

Pop-Tart Cereal

@thenaughtyfork, the same genius behind pancake cereal, came up with this recipe just days before the latter blew up the internet. Cut store-bought pie dough into little rectangles. Brush one with strawberry jam in the middle, top with another piece and seal the edges with a fork. Bake for 12 minutes at 400°F and glaze with icing made from powdered sugar and milk.

Cookie Cereal

Just like regular cereal, cookies are best paired with milk so this is just brilliant. Justin Schuble of @dcfoodporn suggests cutting cookie dough into even pieces and rounding the edges. Bake the cookies at 350°F for seven minutes and let cool for a few more. Serve on a bowl and add milk or ice cream.
