FOUR mayors in Davao Region will be given show-cause orders by the Department of the Interior and Local Government (DILG) over alleged “poor performance” in the distribution of the emergency cash subsidy under the Social Amelioration Program (SAP) in their localities.

Based on the press statement of DILG Secretary Eduardo M. Año, these local chief executives (LCEs) will be made to explain why they performed poorly despite the two extensions of the deadline given to local government units (LGUs), which ended on May 10.

The four LCEs in Davao Region are among the 43 mayors who will be issued the show cause orders to air their side on their failure to complete the SAP distribution.

SunStar Davao tried to reach DILG-Davao Regional Director Alex Roldan regarding these LGUs but there was no response as of press time.

In an earlier report, Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD)-Davao information officer Kristelle May Cagatin said the vast majority of the local government units in Davao Region have already completed the distribution of cash aids to affected families.

However, she said some areas are still incomplete in terms of distribution. Cagatin mentioned factors on the delay of the payout, including the shortage of disbursing officers and that some places in the region are geographically isolated and disadvantaged areas (Gida). Social workers in the far-flung municipalities are having difficulty accessing those areas because of their location.

They also have a limit on the number of individuals to be served in a day given the population of a certain area and the limited manpower resources.

She added, however, that distribution to some unserved beneficiaries is still ongoing.

Cagatin said that as of Sunday, May 17, there are only three remaining LGUs including Davao City which is not yet 100 percent complete in their payout distribution.
