DOT assists stranded OFWs, tourists

THE Department of Tourism (DOT) continues its commitment to assist stranded individuals in Zamboanga Peninsula.

DOT Assistant Secretary for Mindanao Myra Paz Valderrosa-Abubakar said 24 stranded overseas Filipino workers (OFWs) and seven foreigners were assisted for transfer to Manila Monday, May 18, through a sweeper flight from Zamboanga City.

Abubakar said among the stranded foreigners are three Americans, three Canadians, and one Taiwanese.

The stranded OFWs are from different parts of the region that are required to return to their work in Germany, Qatar, and Saudi Arabia.

Abubakar spearheaded the send-off party, together with the DOT-Zamboanga Peninsula staff, at the Zamboanga International Airport.

She appreciated the continuous coordination and support of Platinum Skies Aviation Inc., Civil Aviation Authority of the Philippines, Department of Foreign Affairs, Overseas Workers Welfare Administration, and the City Government that made the repatriation of stranded OFWs and tourists a success.
