Cebuanos mull Pacquiao’s next foe

SINCE his impressive win over Keith Thurman in 2019, Filipino ring legend Manny Pacquiao is still undecided on who he’ll fight next.

Some of the names that have been mentioned as possible Pacquiao opponents are Danny Garcia, Mikey Garcia, Terence Crawford, Amir Khan, Errol Spence, and even MMA star Conor McGregor.

The two Garcias, however, have recently showed their interest in facing Manny Pacquiao amidst the Covid-19 pandemic.

Between the two, ALA Gym head coach Edito Villamor and two-time world title challenger AJ “Bazooka” Banal believe that Danny should be a better match for the 41-year-old Paquiao.

“I go with Danny Garcia. He’s a bigger draw compared to Mikey. It should also be an exciting fight,” Villamor told SunStar Cebu.

“Danny Garcia would be a good fight for Manny. Garcia’s style fits Manny’s,” said Banal.

Danny, 32, is coming off a unanimous decision over Ivan Redkach last January. He is 36-2 with 21 knockouts and has beaten the likes of Nate Campbell, Erik Morales, Zab Judah, Lucas Matthysse, Robert Guerrero and Brandon Rios.

It was recently reported, however, that a Danny Garcia vs. Errol Spence Jr. fight is in the works for September.

Big Yellow Gym head coach Christopher “Ping-Ping” Tepora and World Boxing Organization (WBO) No. 12 rated super flyweight KJ Cataraja, on the other hand, feel that Mikey should be a better fight for Pacquiao. (EKA)
