WATER has always been a source of life and continues to be a serious concern among Bacolodnons in terms of its adequate supply to serve the growing population in the highly urbanized city.

Approximately, less than 50 percent of the people living in different communities in the city are being served by the Bacolod City Water District while the rest look for means on how they can independently supply their own households with water necessary for drinking and for performing household duties.

As we wage war against the coronavirus disease pandemic, water becomes even more valuable as people need to stay clean. Sanitation in the house must similarly be observed as well.

This is where the Rotary Club of Bacolod came into the picture as they saw the need to distribute water supply to the different barangays in Bacolod City starting from the enhanced community quarantine (ECQ) until the city’s classification of a low risk area to Covid-19 required a downgrade to the general community quarantine (GCQ).

RC Bacolod President Frederick Anthony de Leon in partnership with the Liga Ng Mga Barangay, Mr. and Mrs. Sy Boon Pit as well as with Bacolod City Councilor Elmer Sy conducted the distribution of water supply to various villages in the city.

He said, the project aims to provide clean potable water supply to the poor communities in Bacolod City.

The communities they served include Brgy. 13 under Brgy. Capt Andrei Familiaran on April 3; Brgy. Banago under Brgy. Capt. Ricky Mijares on April 6; Brgy. 30 under Brgy. Capt. Nino Petierre on April 8; Brgy. 32 under Brgy. Capt. Biboy Yap and at Brgy 29 under Brgy. Capt. Edner Gigie on April 13; Brgy Banago under Brgy. Capt Ricky Mijares on April 16; Brgy. 38 under Brgy. Capt. Gener Agpalo on April 20; Brgy. 16 under Brgy. Capt Joseph delos Santos on April 23; Brgy. Handumanan, under Brgy. Capt. Ric Danoy on April 26; Brgy. 27 under Brgy Capt. Freeman Madalag on April 30.

On May 9, they distributed water to Brgy. Banago under Brgy. Capt. Ricky Mijares and at Brgy. Vista Alegre - Abada escay under Brgy. Capt. Lindy de Leon on May 16.

He said this is a modest way put up by RC Bacolod and its partners of sharing to other people but it has generally helped them particularly in this time of the Covid-19 pandemic.
