Mandaue logs 66 new Covid-19 cases, all from the city jail

CEBU recorded 88 new coronavirus disease 2019 (Covid-19) cases on Wednesday 20, 2020. Of this number, 66 are male inmates of the Mandaue City Jail.

With the 66 new cases, Mandaue City now has 199 Covid-19 cases.

In Cebu City, 18 new Covid-19 cases were reported on Wednesday, May 20, 2020.

The 18 new Covid-19 cases came from Barangays Pasil (seven); Duljo (three); Sawang Calero (two); Suba (two); Tejero (one); Mambaling (one); Labangon (one); and Apas (one).

There were also four new laboratory-negative cases, which were from Barangays Apas (two); Luz (one); and Kalunasan (one).

These cases bring the total of the city’s laboratory-negative patients to 108.

Cebu City now has 1,782 Covid-19 positive patients with 16 mortalities.

In Talisay City, a 32-year-old pregnant woman from Barangay Tabunok is the city’s new Covid-19 case.

On his Facebook page, Talisay City Mayor Gerald Anthony Gullas Jr. said the patient was swabbed at the Perpetual Succour Hospital before her scheduled caesarean section as part of the protocol of the hospital.

Gullas added that they had contacted all the family members and they are already home quarantined. Police and barangay officials have also cordoned their house and they are also scheduled to take the swab test.

Talisay City now has 17 Covid-19 cases with six deaths and one recovery.

In Lapu-Lapu City, Mayor Junard Chan disclosed that the city has three new Covid-19 cases.

In a Facebook post, Chan said the three new cases are residents of Barangays Pusok, Marigondon and Basak.

The three new cases brought the total number of Covid-19 cases in Lapu-Lapu City to 61.

Lapu-Lapu City has been placed under general community quarantine (GCQ) since May 16.

Earlier, Chan reminded the public that even as the city is under GCQ, their cooperation and constant vigilance are still needed to combat the virus.

“Kanunay kita magbinantayon ug atong pagasundon ang tanang nakabutang sa atong bag-ong executive order (Let us all be vigilant and let us follow what has been stated in the new executive order),” he said.

On Wednesday, the Department of Health reported 279 new cases of Covid-19, bringing the total number of Covid-19 cases in the country to 13,221.

Of the 279 new cases, 150 were recorded in the National Capital Region, 14 in Central Visayas and 115 from the different regions of the Philippines.

DOH also announced 89 new recoveries, bringing the total number of recoveries in the country to 2,932. (JJL, JCT, JKV, JGS)
