BPO-related jobs still in demand

WORKERS in the business process outsourcing (BPO) are still highly in demand in Davao City amid the coronavirus disease (Covid-19) pandemic, the City Public Employment Service Office (Peso) revealed.

Peso Davao manager Lilibeth Pantinople said the outsourcing sector has been greatly affected by the global pandemic, however, the sector remains to be relevant as companies continue to hire more workers.

Pantinople said among the needed BPO workers specifically include online coding teachers, customer service representatives, e-mail support, and online tutorial.

Peso said that there are an estimated 1,800 job vacancies.

“Despite nga naa ta sa ECQ (enhanced community quarantine), naa gihapon nangahire. Kasagaran kay mga call center agents kay wala nagstop ang (operation) sa atong BPO. Padayon gihapon sila especially tong sa online tutorial since pwede ra siya homebased (Despite the city being placed under ECQ, there are still those who are being hired. Most of them are call center agents since BPO operation continues, especially those doing online tutorials since it is mainly home-based),” Pantinople said in a radio interview on 87.5 FM Davao City Disaster Radio.

High school graduates, she said, can also take advantage of this opportunity since most BPOs are accepting those who are at least high school graduates.

“Pwede sila didtoa. Ang importante lang man is that fluent ka sa English (They are qualified for as long as they are fluent in English),” Pantinople said.

Other in-demand jobs, she said, are mall-based jobs like baggers, customer assistant, selling clerk, and accounting assistant.

For interested applicants and those who want to scout vacant job positions, Pantinople said they do not have to visit the office. Instead, they can visit their official Facebook page, Peso Davao City.
