ALTHOUGH cases of coronavirus disease (Covid-19) in Davao Region are increasing, the Department of Health (DOH)-Davao said that for 10 consecutive days, no patient succumbed to the respiratory disease since May 16.

Based on DOH-Davao's Regional Situation Update, the last fatality they recorded was on May 15 after a 10-year-old child from Adecor, Kaputian, Island Garden City of Samal (Igacos) died on May 14.

From May 16 to 25, DOH-Davao said the region's total deaths remained at 25.

As of May 24, 2020, there are a total of 251 Covid-19 cases in the region with 125 recoveries.

Southern Philippines Medical Center (SPMC) medical professional staff chief Dr. Ricardo Audan said most of the cases they are receiving are mild cases while some are asymptomatic or do not manifest Covid-19 symptoms such as fever, dry cough, and shortness of breath.

"Wala tay narecord kay more on mild cases among admissions (We have not recorded new deaths because most of our admissions are mild cases)," Audan said.

He added that there are still patients in critical condition admitted at SPMC and who were found positive for Sars-CoV-2, the pathogen causing Covid-19.

Patients in critical condition are at SPMC, while those with only mild symptoms and are asymptomatic are sent to Queensland isolation facility in Matina Aplaya.

Audan also said that the policy prohibiting minors, senior citizens, pregnant women, sick, and immunocompromised individuals from going out of their residences has helped prevent transmission of the virus among these vulnerable sectors.

Authorities warned that the elderly with an underlying medical condition are at risk of the fatal effect of Covid-19.

"Nakatabang kay sila ra man gud ang vulnerable ang immune system nila s

medyo mubo napod lalo na kasagaran elderly nay coexisting disease (the policy has helped because senior citizens are vulnerable because of their weak immune system. Most of the elderly also have a coexisting disease)," he added.

In Davao Region, Davao City has the most number of registered deaths at 22, followed by Davao del Norte with two, and Davao Occidental with one.
