City Health records 5 deaths, more negative results

FIVE persons, three of whom were home deaths, died over the weekend and another on Monday morning, May 25, Cagayan de Oro City Health Office Dr. Joselito Retuya said.

Those tagged as "home deaths" include a 26-year-old female from Zone 5 Barangay FS Canatico, an 89-year-old female from Barangay Bulua, and a resident of Upper Barangay Bulua.

The 26-year-old woman was diagnosed with hypovolemic shock and acute blood loss and died at 4:30 a.m. last Saturday, May 23.

Retuya said the woman had no travel history and no exposure to any known coronavirus-positive patient.

The family of the 26-year-old woman opted for cremation and she was cremated at 8 p.m. of May 23.

The 89-year-old female, on the other hand, has the final diagnosis of acute myocardial infarction and congestive heart failure and was also diagnosed this year with breast cancer.

She was tagged as non-Covid and her remains were, at present, in her home as the family holds their vigil. She will be buried on May 27.

The resident from Upper Bulua, Retuya said, was diagnosed with acute myocardial infarction, electrolyte imbalance, and malnutrition, and the remains will be transferred to Masiu, Lanao del Sur.

Another fatality was an 82-year-old male from Zone 10 Zayas, Barangay Carmen who visited JR Borja General Hospital twice for consultation.

Retuya said the 82-year-old man consulted the hospital on May 19 and 21, wherein both times, he was advised to go home after he was assessed.

On May 22, the man was brought to the JR Borja hospital due to loss of consciousness. His final diagnosis was sudden cardiac death.

The remains of the 82-year-old man, who was categorized as non-Covid, and will be buried on May 27.

On Sunday, May 24, a patient from a private hospital whose final diagnosis showed septic shock secondary to community-acquired pneumonia, septic encephalopathy, malignant arrhythmia secondary to electrolyte imbalance, and severe hypokalemia also died.

The City Health Office has also started its contact tracing for this particular patient, who was swabbed on May 24, Retuya said.

On Monday, May 25, a resident of Barangay Bugo died at 8:20 a.m. with the final diagnosis of community-acquired pneumonia (high risk) with hypoxemia and hypertensive cerebrovascular disease.

The patient was admitted in a private hospital on Sunday evening and was swabbed on the same day.

Retuya said the family of the patient opted for burial on May 25, with his remains to be transferred to Gingoog City.

Meanwhile, three persons who were admitted at the Northern Mindanao Medical Center (NMMC), two of them dead, have their test results read negative.

Tested negative were: a 35-year-old male from Barangay Bonbon, a 44-year-old male from Barangay Patag, and a 78-year-old male from Barangay Camaman-an.

The former two were already dead while the latter was admitted at the NMMC's intensive care unit due to coronary artery disease and heart failure.
