MACABEBE Mayor Bobong Flores expressed support to the possible shift to general community quarantine (GCQ) despite the continuous rise of coronavirus disease (Covid-19) cases across the country.

Flores said transitioning to GCQ will bring back livelihood of most residents of Macabebe as restrictions on movement will be eased and more industries will be allowed to open.

"It is in GCQ that people will live, not in ECQ (enhanced community quarantine) or MECQ (modified enhanced community quarantine). People need their sustainable livelihood back, not short-lived relief packs and cash assistance," the mayor said.

Flores said some people favor ECQ due to the relief assistance they are receiving from the national government.

He said relief assistance from the government only encourages people to rely from somebody else instead of working for themselves.

But for those who really need aid, Flores said local government units must have allocated cash aid to ease their situation.

"I am not after the cash aid that will be downloaded from the national government under ECQ or MECQ. I want my people to live. And if some really need assistance, the local government can provide for them," he said.
