K-reative ways to spend summer

K-reative ways to spend summer

SUMMER has arrived! The sun is shining brighter and the days are getting hotter. It’s the time of the year that everyone looks forward to. It’s the time to go to the beach and take a dip in the refreshing clear blue waters or drive up to Baguio to cool off with the fresh mountain air. For some, it’s even a chance to take a break and fly off to Hong Kong, Japan, the U.S. or some other country.

But this year, it’s not happening, is it?

The enhanced community quarantine (ECQ) is curbing the pandemic but it has also put a nail in a lot of our summer plans. Commercial flights have been suspended for general use and are designated only for essential travel. One can’t take a road trip with friends or family because one can only go out for food, groceries and medicine. Everyone is still quarantined at home.

However, before ranting about ruined vacation plans, one should take comfort in knowing that by staying home, one is saving lives, helping the frontliners, protecting himself, his family and others from contracting the virus.

So what about summer? Isn’t it such a waste to let the sunny days go by being stuck at home?

Well, if one is K-reative enough, he can make his own summer staycation as productive and fun as going to one’s usual vacation destinations.

Make one’s home into a personal resort.

There are a lot of inflatable and personal pools that one can buy online or at a local supermarket. Set it up, fill it up with water and presto! One has a pool for everyone in the family to take a dip in. Buy some fruits, pop them in the freezer and then blend that resort-style fruit shake. Don’t forget to put some beach music on like Bob Marley or Beach Boys to complete the ambience.

Create a secret garden.

One doesn’t have to go out of town to enjoy the beautiful green scenery. One can plant his own garden of flowers or vegetables. Use pots and plant boxes, or even recycled plastic bottles. Pick up some flower or vegetable seeds from an online store or at the grocery. One can also try using the seeds from his favorite fruits. There are tutorial and video hacks one can watch to make homemade compost and decorate a garden. So, go green this summer!

Meet up with loved ones online.

The internet is not only good for watching videos, emailing and online shopping this summer. There are some apps that one can use to video call, not just for work, but to connect with family and friends as well. Set up a time to have a conference call with them and have an online reunion. Catch up on the latest “chismis” or just hang out with them to see how they are doing. The ECQ has been rough on everyone, so reaching out will really do them some good.

Learn something new.

In the past, one had probably said he doesn’t have time for a hobby. Now that everyone is quarantined at home, he has nothing but time. So, take that old guitar out. Bring out the oil paint and canvas. Remember the camera in the closet? Take up photography again! Learn to cook an Italian dish. Do all these with family. There are tons of tutorials online, just type it in the search box and get started.

To learn new useful skills, Tesda and other learning institutions, local and abroad, have offered to teach online courses for free during this quarantine.

Travel the world virtually.

There’s nothing like the experience of traveling—seeing new places, visiting historical sites, learning about the art and culture of a country. One can still do it—not physically, but virtually. There are cool links and websites like TravelandLeisure.com that take you on free virtual tours in museums, zoos, historical sites, tourist destinations, holy sites, amusement parks and beaches around the world. And guess what? No need for visas! One’s dream destination is just a click away.

Here are some other fun things one can do:

• Legally stream a free concert or a play like Cirque du Soleil’s “O”, Ang Huling El Bimbo, Shakespeare’s Globe and many others.

• Finish one’s reading list.

• Film a video just for fun. Try a Tiktok challenge or record oneself singing with family.

• Make homemade ice cream.

• Throw a dance party with the kids.

• Get the kids off their phones and play old school games like hopscotch, hide and seek, patintero, Chinese garter and more.

There are tons of other things one can do if he uses his imagination and get K-reative!

This summer can be as fun as one makes it. And Generika Drugstore wants everyone to stay safe and healthy this whole summer. Don’t forget to stock up on Generika’s Actimed and Nutrawell vitamins and supplements that help boost the immune system and keep the body strong against viruses and sickness.

With Generika, one can get through this quarantine. And with some K-reativity, one can get through the summer with awesome memories with loved ones. “Dahil sa Generika, may K ka!”
