THE Davao City Government has granted the standard fare increase for tricycles to P10.

In an issued general public notice on May 26, the Davao City Motorized Tricycle-For-Hire Franchising and Regulatory Board of the City Transport and Traffic Management Office (CTTMO) approved the P10 minimum-fare charge for regular passengers for the first four kilometers and additional P1 for every succeeding kilometers. Meanwhile, students, senior citizens, and persons with disabilities will be charged P8 for the first four kilometers and additional 80 centavos for every succeeding kilometer.

According to the resolution, the fare increase took effect immediately, and it will be implemented until the State of Public Health Emergency is lifted.

“This resolution is set after careful consideration of the interest of the riding public and the tricycle operators and drivers and the limitation brought by the general community quarantine, to adopt an equitable and reasonable fare rate for all,” the notice states.

On Monday, Davao City Mayor Sara Duterte-Carpio announced in a radio interview, the tricycle fare increase.

The mayor said the City Government considered the strict limit of passengers per tricycle units for the observance of physical distancing as a consideration for the fare increase.

The mayor said the increase will immediately take effect, and no updated fare matrix is needed.

Earlier on May, the Land Transportation Franchising and Regulatory Board-Davao Region (LTFRB-Davao) granted an increase in the public utility jeepney (PUJ) fare to P9 for the first four kilometers and additional P1.50 for every succeeding kilometer.

However, PUJ drivers are required to get a special permit before they would even be allowed to operate and have a fare increase.
