Moulic, Centillo cop chess titles

DAVAO City’s Alfred Moulic and General Santos City’s John Mark Centillo bagged titles in the past two editions of the Mindanao Arbiters Online Chess Tournament held recently via lichess.org server.

Moulic, of Buhangin, father of De La Salle University bemedaled UAAP chess player Ella Grace, earned 7.5 points after nine matches in the 2nd Mindanao Arbiters Chess960 Tournament sponsored by Jam Christy Infiesto.

He won seven games over Glenn Aleria, Dong Ordiz, Richard Togonon, Ramil Lomod Langamon, Centillo, James Infiesto and Ariel Nino Aton. However, Moulic drew with Yong Barba in his fourth round and lost to Cyrus Donasco in his eighth match.

Moulic edged fellow 7.5 scorer Langamon of Panabo City via superior tiebreaks, 39.25-35.75, to capture the championship while the latter settled for the runner-up honors.

Fellow Dabawenyo international arbiter (IA) James Infiesto, also National Chess Federation of the Philippines (NCFP) regional director, finished third with six points.

The top three received P100, P50 and P25 GCash as prizes.

Special awards also went to AIM Yong Barba (5.5 points, Top 1900), Donasco (5 points, Top 2000) and Rockey Pagkaliwagan (5 points, Top 1850).

Meanwhile, Centillo topped the 1ST Mindanao Arbiters Online Chess Tournament after tallying nine points in the chessfest sponsored by IA James Infiesto.

Eight-pointers Langamon and Aton placed second and third, respectively, while seven-pointer Jimmy Dano came fourth.

They also received cash prizes along with other awardees were John Anthony Pedroso (Top 2000), Glenn Aleria (Top 1900) and John Jexter Zapanta (Top 1800).
