THE Bureau of Fisheries and Aquatic Resources (BFAR) Central Luzon released new sets of fish fingerlings inside the Colo Dam in Dinalupihan, Bataan in the bid to improve the number of fish stocks for local communities.
BFAR aimed to improve fish production as it provides 5,000 common carp and 100,000 GET EXCEL tilapia fingerlings to Colo Dam recently through its Provincial Fisheries Office and Dispersal Unit.
Fish farmers in the community also benefited from the activity and went home with 9,000 red tilapia input assistance.
The BFAR said that the productivity of man-made water bodies, at certain times, tends to demand manipulation to be able to support artisanal fishery.
“This is when BFAR steps in to help sustain and develop the dam’s output efficiency through regular stock enhancement,” the BFAR said.
The activity was made possible with the assistance of the provincial government. The BFAR3 Technological Outreach Station for Fresh Water extended a helping hand as well and worked double time in the face of the pandemic threat to nurse the fingerlings sourced from BFAR- National Freshwater Fisheries Technology Center, collect, pack and load them, ready for the distribution.
