ANOTHER individual from Cebu City who arrived in Cagayan de Oro on May 19 has tested positive for the new virus that causes the coronavirus disease (Covid-19), health officials said.

The new patient is a 25-year-old female, a resident of Barangay Lumbia, Cagayan de Oro City. She was among the locally stranded individuals who arrived in Cagayan de Oro from Cebu to take the architectural exam.

She is the second passenger of the May 19 mercy trip who tested positive for the virus. The first is a 26-year-old male, also an architectural student in the city but whose hometown is in Iligan City.

Northern Mindanao Medical Center medical officer Dr. Bernard Rocha said the patient has non-productive cough, had diarrhea and is experiencing onset of shortness of breath. She is stable.

City epidemiologist Dr. Joey Retuya said the source of infection might be in Cebu port where they stayed for at least four days after their scheduled May 16 trip did not push through.

"Ang source of infection not from Cagayan de Oro, not from the boat," Retuya said.

So far, Retuya said they have traced a total of 65 individuals who are close contacts of both the 26-year-old male and 25-year-old female new Covid-19 patients.

Mayor Oscar Moreno, meanwhile, assured parents of the passengers of the May 19 trip that their children who are currently placed in City Isolation Units are managed well.

The passengers, upon their arrival at the Cagayan de Oro seaport, have been transported to various isolation units in the city.
