7 persons nabbed for tampering expiry dates of goods

COMBINED agents of National Bureau of Investigation (NBI) and Subic Bay Metropolitan Authority (SBMA) Intelligence and Investigation personnel raided a warehouse in Subic Bay Freeport and arrested seven persons for tampering expire dates of goods.

Two of the arrested were identified as Philip Velasco and Amanda Pathak of the Phil-Em Enterprise Incorporated.

SBMA Chairperson Wilma Eisma said combined elements of NBI, headed by John Katipunan, Special Investigator III, and the IIO operatives, armed with a search warrant issued by Assisting Judge Michael Real of the Regional Trial Court-Third Judicial Branch 74, swooped down the warehouse located at Bldg. 187, Gridley Road, Global Industrial Park inside the Freeport on Wednesday, May 27.

Eisma said during the operations, the operatives caught red handed the employees of the said establishment erasing the expiry dates on the Clover Chips and replacing them with a new expiry date using the printer machine.

Confiscated were four units of Citronex Printer Machine with conveyors, 150 reams of labeling stickers, 50 reams of labeled stickers, two cans of eraser fluid (Boysen Lacquer Flo) and several boxes of food items such as Ligo sardines, Clover chips, Nissins cup noodles, Century tuna, Milo Energy drink, Skyflakes crackers, Star Margarine, Magnolia Cheese, Royal and Fiesta pasta, Lily's peanut butter and food seasonings.

Eisma said the suspects, along with the confiscated items, were taken to the NBI office in Subic Bay Freeport for disposition and filing of appropriate charges in a local court. (Ric Sapnu)
