DA celebrates fisherfolk month amid Covid-19

THE Department of Agriculture (DA)-Central Luzon celebrated the Farmers and Fisherfolk Month led by Regional Director Crispulo Bautista Jr. through a photo exhibit and distribution of seedlings at the DA grounds on May 26.

With the theme "Pagpupugay sa Magsasaka at Mangingisda Natin, Tungo sa Sapat na Pagkain," the event highlights the importance of the fisherfolk sector amid the ongoing spread of the coronavirus.

The activity aims to acknowledge the importance of the local farmers and fisherfolk for their relentless efforts and contributions as the unsung heroes of the agriculture sector, create awareness on the programs on ensuring food security and resiliency, advocate policy support to agri-fishery interventions in the pipeline, and massively promote the implementation of the Plant. Plant. Plant Program (4Ps).

Representatives from the different local government units (LGUs) received assorted seeds and seedlings as a part of the stimulus program -- "Ahon Lahat, Pagkaing Sapat (Alpas) kontra sa Covid-19."

Danilo Pineda from City of San Fernando expressed his gratitude to the department for the seedlings they acquired.

"The seedlings will be distributed to the constituents of San Fernando. It will help them to plant on their backyards therefore we will be able to promote urban gardening in the city and we would like to commend DA for its 4Ps Program," Pineda added.

In an interview, Bautista said this year's target rice production of the country will be attained with the help of the Rice Resiliency Project and dedication of the local farmers.

Simultaneously, a Kadiwa ni Ani at Kita was held at the DA grounds and St. Francis Village, City of San Fernando.
