POLICE arrested Wednesday, May 27, a man who allegedly failed to deliver P12 million worth of medical supplies, including 200,000 pieces of face masks.

Ador Mawanay, whose real name is Antonio Luis Marquez, was arrested around 5:30 p.m. of May 27 in Greenwoods Executive Village in Pasig City.

This is reportedly the same person who claimed in 2001 to have hacked into the bank accounts of Senator Panfilo Lacson and accused the senator of illegal drug links during his stint as Philippine National Police (PNP) chief.

He later recanted his statement. Authorities also established that he does not even know how to use a computer.

Brigadier General Rhoderick Armamento, deputy director for administration of the PNP Criminal Investigation and Detection Group (CIDG), said an arrest warrant over charges of estafa was issued against Marquez by the Antipolo City Regional Trial Court.

Armamento said the operation against Marquez stemmed from a complaint of a doctor who said he ordered P12 million worth of medical supplies from the suspect before the implementation of the enhanced community quarantine (ECQ).

The suspect failed to complete delivery of the items, which include 200,000 pieces of face masks.

“Due to staggered, long or delayed deliveries made by the suspect and about 200,000 pieces of face masks still undelivered, the doctor begun to worry and sensed that he is already a victim of estafa prompting him to sought the assistance of the CIDG,” the CIDG said.

The CIDG said Marquez sells medical supplies online with a promise of fast delivery.

However, once the payment is made the suspect blocks his customers and no delivery is made.

It was also found that Marquez has a standing arrest warrant issued by the Quezon City, San Juan and Antipolo courts over estafa.

The suspect will be temporarily detained at CIDG pending his appearance before the court and the posting of bail. (Third Anne Peralta-Malonzo/SunStar Philippines)
