THE Aklan Provincial Government is currently preparing for the re-opening of the tourism industry in the province.

Governor Florencio Miraflores said part of the preparation is the construction of the Covid-19 testing center, adding that the PCR testing machine the province commissioned has already arrived.

Earlier, MalacaƱang spokesman Harry Roque said the Inter-Agency Task Force (IATF) is considering reopening Boracay to domestic tourism soon.

"We wanted Boracay Island to be considered Covid-free, thus the need for a testing facility in the province," Miraflores said.

The province is also currently coordinating with the Department of Health for the accreditation of the center.

The center located at the compound of the Aklan provincial hospital is also being constructed.

The tourism industry in Boracay was temporarily closed last March due to Covid-19 pandemic.

On Wednesday, May 27, the IATF issued a resolution that states Aklan will be under modified general community quarantine (MGCQ) from June 1 to 15, 2020. Some industries will be allowed to open in areas under MGCQ. (Jun N. Aguirre/SunStar Philippines)
