Lizada: It's back

AT THE onset of this pandemic, both mainstream and social media got flooded with feel-good articles that ranged from how simple life is really to the environmental benefits of the lockdown. People wrote about how we rediscovered our kindness and humanity. We got to pray more often, became more tolerant, and remembered the values that once we all had. Suddenly because of this pandemic, people became human and humane. It was well and it was good, while it lasted.

Then slowly it came back. I saw this ad for a face mask that sold for 90 dollars and I thought uh oh here we go. Then I started reading sanctimonious statements about practically anything. Condescending, cruel thoughts once more flooded online platforms. Opinions and editorials spewing vile and nasty things made their comebacks.

Corruption reared its head once more. Politics re-emerged. And guess what, we are back to what we were before. It was short and sweet while it lasted but people being people it could not be helped I guess that we would go back in our ways. And so we are here in familiar ground.

Again. The complaints, the bickering, the arrogance, the stupidity, and humanity. It is as if the pandemic never happened. The darkness is back because we are back. The darkness is back we are black.

But I guess we can always argue it never disappeared really. It was always there. We just took a vacation from it and since the two weeks is over, we are back to what we do best. What a waste. When you think about it was all for nothing. One would think that we would emerge from this wounded and beaten thus also wiser. No such thing. We are still the same, well at least most people are still what they are when this all this began.

And it will only get worse when we find the vaccine. It is almost a guarantee that once we are once more unleashed into this world, we shall once more pollute all that we touch. The oceans, the land, the skies, and yes each other. We will detonate bombs once more, kidnap, steal, lie, cheat, defile, and whatever it is we do best when we are back in our elements. Too bad really. This could have been an opportunity. Even a lesson.

Someone once said that there are no mistakes, only lessons. Well, that is not true in this case. We just have the mistakes but not the lessons because if we did, we would all be happier now. Perhaps the virus would be gone. But no.

The virus is out there and we have no choice but to face it because we have no choice. We could have done great things in this pandemic. We could have learned many things. But no. We are worse than ever before because we blew our chances.

The most dangerous virus in this world is not invisible.
