Guv seeks clarification on airport opening to int’l flights

GOVERNOR Eugenio Jose Lacson said Friday, May 29, that the report about the opening of Bacolod-Silay Airport to international flights needs clarification.

Lacson said he was surprised with the statement of Secretary Arthur Tugade of the Department of Transportation l, Wednesday night to open the Bacolod-Silay Airport for international flights.

“We’ve always been wanting to be an international airport, but we have been told we’re not ready for an international flight and our runway is not long enough,” Lacson said.

He added, “it has to be clarified if we are directly receiving flights from abroad. We need a clarification on that.”

There have been moves to extend the runway of the airport as well as the renovation of its terminal to cater to international flights.
