3 new admissions at NMMC

THE Northern Mindanao Medical Center (NMMC) in Cagayan de Oro City has recorded three new admissions as of Saturday, May 30, medical specialist Dr. Beranrd Rocha said.

Admitted were a 38-year-old male from Upper Carmen, a 50-year-old male from outside Cagayan de Oro, and the 49-year-old female from Barangay Kauswagan who tested positive for the new virus that causes the coronavirus disease (Covid-19).

Rocha said the 38-year-old man was already swabbed and tested, and his result read negative, but he was admitted at the hospital's medical ward due to pneumonia.

Likewise, the 50-year-old man was also swabbed and tested following his admission due to body weakness, fever, and scrotal swelling.

His initial test result read negative, but he was swabbed and tested again as suggested by the specialist from the internal medicine department of NMMC after his pneumonia worsened.

The 50-year-old man was intubated and was labeled as probable.

"Reswabbing was done to make sure it's not Covid-19," Rocha said.

The result of his repeat test read negative, he added.

At present, the 50-year-old man was transferred from Erid ward to the ICU.

The third admission was the 49-year-old woman who tested positive for the virus. She was admitted after she experienced a 38.4 degrees Celsius fever during her stay in the City Isolation Unit (CIU).

According to Rocha, the woman was initially tested negative on May 16 while she was still in Cebu getting ready to travel back to Cagayan de Oro.

On May 21, she attended a dinner with four alleged asymptomatic coronavirus-positive individuals.

She traveled back to Cagayan de Oro on May 24 and arrived on May 25 with complaints of nonproductive cough associated with colds and throat itchiness.

Meanwhile, the three Covid-positive persons, the husband and daughter of the dead Covid patient from Macanhan and the 26-year-old student from Iligan City, staying at the CIU, remained asymptomatic, City Health Office Epidemiologist Dr. Joselito Retuya said.
