CITY of San Fernando Mayor Edwin Santiago personally received on Friday the Gawad Kalasag incentives worth P500,000 awarded by the Office of the Civil Defense Regional Office 3.

This, after San Fernando won last year’s Best City Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council under the independent/component city category in the whole country.

The annual Gawad Kalasag, which stands for “Kalamidad at Sakuna Labanan, Sariling Galing ang Kaligtasan”, is the country’s recognition mechanism for various stakeholders that design and implement Disaster Risk Reduction and Management (DRRM) programs that protect high-risk communities against hazards and render them more capable of addressing their vulnerabilities and coping with disasters.

According to Santiago, the incentive will be used for the implementation of priority programs, activities, and projects of the City DRRM realigned with the current 2019 Coronavirus disease (Covid-19) pandemic. (PR)
