Mayor to join IATF, religious leaders in Zoom meeting

BACOLOD City Mayor Evelio Leonardia, as national president of the League of Cities of the Philippines, will attend an online consultation meeting with members of the Inter-Agency Task Force on the Management of Emerging Infectious Diseases (IATF-MEID) Monday, June 1.

The online meeting, which will start at 9:30 a.m. via Zoom, will address concerns on religious activities and local governance in relation to the ongoing health crisis due to the coronavirus disease (Covid-19).

Leonardia is the only local chief executive from Western Visayas who will attend the meeting initiated by the IATF, the national body assigned at the forefront of the fight against Covid-19.

Other mayors who will be joining the online meeting are Mayor Isko Moreno of Manila City, Mayor Edgardo Labella of Cebu City, Mayor Joy Belmonte of Quezon City, Mayor Francis Zamora of San Juan City, Mayor Edwin Olivarez of ParaƱaque City, and Mayor Luis "Chavit" Singson of Narvacan, Ilocos Sur.

Governor Presbitero Velasco Jr., president of the League of Provinces of the Philippines, and Governor Dakila Carlo Cua, chairman of the League of Provinces of the Philippines, will also be present.

Eight religious leaders, including Bishop Mylo Vergara and Fr. Genardo Diwa of the Catholic Bishops' Conference of the Philippines and Bro. Glicerio Santos IV of Iglesia ni Cristo, will attend the online meeting together with the members and representatives of national agencies such as the Department of Interior and Local Government, Department of Justice, and Office of the Cabinet Secretaries.

Also attending are representatives of the Department of Labor and Employment, Department of Education, Office of the Presidential Spokesperson, Office of the Senior Deputy Executive Secretary, Anti-Red Tape Authority, National Council on Muslim Filipinos, and the Office of the Presidential Adviser for Religious Affairs.

Leonardia said that if an opportunity comes, he will also raise the issue on the reopening of airports and seaports for commercial flights and voyages.

Bacolod City will be under Modified General Community Quarantine beginning Monday, June 1. (PR)
