Folayang eyes knockout vs Korean contender

ENDURANCE will be Eduard Folayang’s main weapon when he enters the ring and defend his welterweight title against Korean Dooje Chung for the Colt 45 Universal Reality Combat Challenge XVI dubbed “Reckoning”.

The former wushu Southeast Asian Games gold medalist will be up against a foreigner in the main event slated Sunday at the events hall of the A. Venue in Makati City and the URCC’s man to beat will eye a possible knock-out in their championship match.

“There is a possibility of a knockout as long as I can hit my mark,” said the Baguio-based fighter in a text message after the weigh in, where his Korean counterpart had to shed an excess of one pound.

Folayang, however, is not discounting the possibility of an upset for the Korean challenger.

“He has a bigger upper body, so he must be strong,” added Folayang after the tipping in at 161 pounds.

Although focus will be on Folayang, who has reaped honors for the country on the international stage as a wushu artist, Davao-based Angelito Manguray and Badong Domasian will also be in the limelight for the lightweight crown.

Manguray, a 42-year-old dentist, is expected to provide some of the day’s highlights after being undefeated in two URCC fights.

Also expected to draw attention in the card also supported by VRP Medical Center, SEAIR, Chris Sports, Yoshinoya and Padi’s Point is the heavyweight showdown between Igor Subora of Ukraine and Nicholas Mann.

Other scheduled bouts: Joward Agao vs Franz Altarejos (bantam); Jessie Rafols vs Erwin Focad (bantam); Lando Espinosa vs Charles de Tomas (bantam), Alvin Ramirez vs Sonny Tubal (pin); Dindo Campo vs George Lusadan (pin), and Angelo Estanol vs Richard Lasprilla (fly).
