Anti-narco ops seize over P2M 'shabu'

A 23-YEAR-OLD woman yielded more than P2 million worth of illegal drugs after she was caught in an anti-narcotics operation on A. Lopez St. in Barangay Labangon, Cebu City on Sunday night, May 31, 2020.

Police identified the suspect as Joe-Ann Cabornay, a resident of Barangay Guadalupe. She was caught a few hours before the city transitioned from enhanced community quarantine (ECQ) to general community quarantine on Monday, June 1.

Operatives of the Cebu City Intelligence Unit, led by P/Maj. Randy Caballes, seized 350 grams of “shabu” worth P2.3 million from Cabornay.

The suspect was reported to be active in illegal drug trade during the ECQ period. Caballes’ team confirmed this report after she was placed on surveillance for two weeks.

Cabornay was caught in a drug bust in 2019. But she went back to her old ways after she was released from jail.

A complaint for violating Republic Act 9165, or the Comprehensive Dangerous Drugs Act of 2002, will be filed against Cabornay. Selling illegal drugs is a non-bailable offense. (BBT, KAL)
