NATIONAL Task Force Covid-19 chief implementer Secretary Carlito Galvez Jr. lauded the unity of Western Visayas in the fight against the coronavirus disease (Covid-19).

Galvez, who was in Iloilo June 2, 2020 to meet with the Western Visayas leaders, said he was "impressed" by the preparations made by the regional Covid task force in managing the spread of the disease.

He also acknowledged the "collective decision" of the local leaders in addressing the problem.

Present during the meeting were Iloilo Governor Arthur Defensor Jr., Iloilo City Mayor Treñas, Guimaras Governor Samuel Gumarin, Capiz Governorr Esteban Contreras, and Antique Mayor Rhodora Cadiao.

"You will not reach the modified general community quarantine (MGCQ) level if your performance is not good. So I would like to congratulate Region 6 for the very good performance," he said.

In his welcome message, Defensor underscored the "productive, efficient, and pleasant collaboration" of the leaders in the region in effectively managing the pandemic.

Galvez also thanked the medical personnel and frontliners for their huge contribution.

As of May 31, Western Visayas recorded a total of 113 cases. One case was added on June 1, totaling to 114.

Department of Health Western Visayas Director Marlyn Convocar reported that of the 113 cases, 81 patients or 72 percent have recovered.

Galvez also commended the contact tracing efforts of the region.

Convocar said they have completed tracing the contacts of all positive cases.

"Out of the 5,466 contacts identified, 100 percent or 5,466 were assessed," the health officer said.

Moreover, Galvez lauded the "One Panay" initiative as a holistic strategy in addressing the Covid-19 pandemic. (PR)
