DAVAO Region Private Schools Athletic Association (Prisaa) president Ma. Lita Montalban recommended the non-collection of Prisaa fee this coming school year due to the current coronavirus disease (Covid-19) pandemic that resulted in the cancellation of sports activities in local, regional, national and international competitions.

Montalban, in a phone interview with SunStar Davao Tuesday, June 2, said she has already raised the matter to National Prisaa secretary-general Laureano “Boy” Santos, but the latter has not yet given a feedback.

“I will call him again. Ako na siya gi-ingnan kung pwede dili lang usa lagi mag-collect (I’ve already asked him about not collecting Prisaa fee),” said Montalban, who spearheaded the successful Davao City hosting of the National Prisaa Games 2019.

She said the Prisaa fee is P100 per enrolled student of a Prisaa member school. Prisaa has 1,200 member schools, colleges and universities in 2019.

The University of Mindanao (UM) in Davao City is the largest among Prisaa members in the region as it usually has the biggest student population every school year.

It can be recalled that the National Prisaa Games 2020, which was originally set last month (April) in Tuguegarao, was rescheduled on 2021 instead due to the prevailing virus threat.

The Davao City Prisaa Meet 2020 was ongoing when quarantine guidelines prohibited the holding of mass gathering including sports activities, thus, games were then cancelled. The Prisaa Regional Meet was likewise canceled.

Davao Region retained its third overall standing in the National Prisaa Games 2019 while Western Visayas was hailed overall champion.

Last week, Davao Association of Catholic Schools (Dacs) executive director Jimmie-Loe Dela Vega bared to SunStar Davao that they will not collect Dacs fee since there will be no school activities this year.

He said the non-collection will be “a little help to the parents.”
