6 police officers test positive for Covid-19; 17 now negative

SIX more police officers from the Cebu City Police Office have tested positive for Covid-19 and are under isolation.

On the other hand, 17 who tested positive during a previous swab test are now negative of the virus.

This was announced by PRO 7 Director Police Bigadier General Albert Ignatius Ferro.

Ferro did not disclose the police station where the six police officers are from as the swab samples were taken last week and the results just came out yesterday.

The police personnel may have contracted the virus from the inmates and detainees of the police station, which was why starting last week, they were placed under isolation and not allowed to leave the station.

The police personnel involved are in an isolation area and are asymptomatic, said Ferro.

“They are here in the downtown area so we can attend to their medical needs. One of them had fever last night but is already recovering. After they have completed the 14 days of isolation, they will be tested for the second swab then we will be able to determine if they will stay at the recovery center so we can continue with their therapy,” Ferro said.

Ferro also announced that 17 police officers who initially tested positive for the virus during the first swab test are now negative. There are 10 more pending results that they hope will come out negative as well.

These police officers are now being housed in a recovery facility in Barangay Taptap, a mountainous area in Cebu City. Once they have fully recovered, they can return home as early as next week.

“I would like to announce as well that 17 of them on their second swab tested negative so usa pa ka swab test they will be considered as recovered,” Ferro said.

The Regional Health Service 7 continues to monitor all the police officers in the region who have fever. However, there are no cases yet that require the swab test, he added. (AYB with CBQ)
