THE implementation of a P4.5 million infrastructure project of the Municipal Task Force to End Local Communist Armed Conflict (MTF-ELCAC) started with a groundbreaking ceremony Tuesday, June 2, in Bunawan village, Godod, Zamboanga del Norte.
Lieutenant General Cirilito Sobejana, commander of the Western Mindanao Command (Westmincom), and Mayor Abel Matildo of Godod, MTF-ELCAC chairperson, led the groundbreaking ceremony.
The project consists of the construction of lined canals and installation of cross drains and other erosion control structures of Bunawan-Sitio Makinaryas-San Pedro road, will protect the recently rehabilitated and opened road project of the Godod municipality.
Matildo said the project has been requested by the residents during the implementation of the community support program of the Army in Bunawan village.
He said the project aims to improve the lives and increase revenue of the community by providing farm-to-market roads for easy access of farm products to the market.
Sobejana has emphasized the role of the citizens in addressing security concerns.
“We, in the Armed Forces, are mandated to secure the people and protect the land. But, I do believe that security is everybody's responsibility. It is a shared responsibility,” Sobejana said.
“Through these projects coupled with good livelihood programs of the different agencies of the government, I think we can solve the security problem that we have today without firing a single gunshot,” Sobejana added.
The implementation of the project is funded through the development fund of Godod municipality.
The groundbreaking ceremony was witnessed by top military and government officials of Godod town, province of Zamboanga del Norte and Department of Agriculture. (SunStar Zamboanga)
