CITY OF SAN FERNANDO -- The City Government of San Fernando and Provincial Government of Pampanga on Thursday joined forces in sending relief operations for Fernandinos.

Pampanga Governor Dennis “Delta” Pineda has allocated 519,431 kilograms palay (unhusked rice) and 35,000 pieces of whole chicken for the residents of the city.

For his part, Mayor Edwin “EdSa” Santiago shouldered the milling cost of the palay and provided additional 35,000 pieces of a whole chicken.

According to Engineer Mike De Leon, City General Services Officer, Capitol initially allocated 147,313 kilos of palay for the city and latter deliveries were already in the form of milled rice.

“Supposedly kasi the provincial government is to give us 519,431 kilos of palay. Noong una yung nakuha lang natin is 147,313 kilos kasi naubusan ng supply yung [National Food Authority (NFA)]. So yung 147,313 kilos na palay na iyon pina-mill natin and the milling cost is P1 per kilo. Pero later on naman, yung remaining allocation ibinigay na ng NFA sa atin as rice kaya di na dumagdag yung milling cost,” the officer said.

De Leon also added that the City supplemented 35,000 pieces of a whole chicken to cover all villages in San Fernando.

The City Social Welfare and Development Office (CSWDO) was able to distribute the relief goods in 14 barangays, including San Nicolas, San Pedro, Sta. Lucia, Malpitic, Calulut, Sindalan, Bulaon, Del Carmen, San Felipe, Del Pilar, San Juan, Sto. Nino, Dolores, Quebiawan and other urban poor communities.

The CSWDO will continue the distribution to the remaining 21 barangays on Friday.

Meanwhile, Santiago expressed his gratitude to the provincial government.

“Our aim here is to support families that are still greatly affected by the pandemic. That is why, the local government unit and provincial government are joining forces and resources to cover all villages in the city, prioritizing the poorest households. Syempre, I thank the governor for the support and assistance he gave us,” Santiago said. (CSF-CIO)
